STUDENT COMMUNITY

The M.S. in Sustainability Management program’s students represent a cross-section of the industries and organizations currently incorporating sustainable initiatives into their day-to-day operations as well as those who are looking to make a career switch. The program’s students are dedicated not only to mastering the theory and science of sustainability, they are passionate about putting their education into practice.

Student Spotlight: Q&A with Sustainability Management Student Hezekiah Williams

Sustainability Management M.S. student Hezekiah Williams has been on a mission to build community among his peers at the School of Professional Studies. A native of Edwards, Mississippi, and graduate of Jackson State University, Williams is a Columbia HBCU Fellow, an officer in the SPS Student Government (SPSSG), and an SPSSG Ambassador to the school’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee. He was most recently named the recipient of the Student Dean’s Excellence Award as well as the Campbell Award in recognition of his academic excellence, professional promise, and commitment to building University community and pride. After Columbia, Williams will begin a doctoral program in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Notre Dame. He spoke to us about how he aims to contribute to a more inclusive environment through his work with the DEIA Committee.

Bringing a Passion for Nature to the Business World

Inspired by his childhood fascination with the outdoors, Sustainability Management alum Zach Bogoshian joined the program to implement lessons from nature to our current environmental challenges after receiving his BA in Political Science. Bogoshian currently works as the VP of Commercial Strategy & Pricing at Inspire.

Student Sows the Seeds for Career in Sustainable Agriculture

After serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua, alum Michele Aquino was drawn to the Sustainability Management program because he saw the need for sustainable programming in development interventions. Michele currently serves as the Director of ESG for the International Dairy Foods Association.

Student Aims for Career in ESG Measurement

Master of Science in Sustainability Management (MSSM) alum Divya Bendre was working in management consulting in Singapore when she stumbled upon an article by Steve Cohen entitled "Educating Sustainability Professionals" that changed the trajectory of her career path. Divya joined the program because she felt the flexible curriculum would help her to combine her interest in sustainability with her academic and professional experiences.

Prior to joining the Master of Science in Sustainability Management (MSSM) program, Janice Tran interned with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs as well as with JPMorgan Chase as an EDF Climate Corps Fellow.
