The M.S. in Sustainability Management program’s students represent a cross-section of the industries and organizations currently incorporating sustainable initiatives into their day-to-day operations as well as those who are looking to make a career switch. The program’s students are dedicated not only to mastering the theory and science of sustainability, they are passionate about putting their education into practice.

Amy Stanfield, an intern for the Living with Lions project, recounts her journey studying mountain lions in Sonoma County. Facing human-wildlife conflicts, she navigated the complex terrain of land use, depredation permits, and community engagement. Stanfield emphasizes the importance of coexistence and understanding, advocating for conservation efforts to protect these essential predators and their ecosystems.

While still a student of the Sustainability Management (SUMA) program at Columbia, Kate was selected by the Environmental Defense Fund for the Climate Corps Fellowship to establish a sustainable packaging roadmap for Wayfair. She currently works as a consultant on the climate and sustainability team at Boston Consulting Group, where she aspires to integrate sustainability into core business strategies.

She joined SUMA to apply her successful business case development skills to sustainability and attributes her success to the program's comprehensive skillset and supportive environment.
